Cuisenaire rods are a fun and useful math tool. We explored them for a bit (basically played around with them) and then we tackled a challenge. Students got to pick one block, any block, and figure out ways to make that length with other blocks. The added challenge was to make that length with blocks that were all the same color. And then to see if there were other ways to make that same length. There was lots of talk and thinking happening!
