The book we are currently reading together is Me and Sam-Sam Handle the Apocalypse. It is about a girl named Jesse and her Pomeranian, Sam. Her mother is deployed to Iraq with her bomb sniffing dog and her father is a teacher at the junior/senior high school she attends. Jesse has autism and is often not treated well by her seventh grade classmates. She lives in Avery, Kentucky and the apocalypse in question is a tornado that hits the town.
